PlanesChat exists because pilots deserve a platform that takes flying as seriously as they do — one where every member is verified, every data source is authoritative, and the tools are built by people who actually fly.
General aviation has an information problem. Critical decisions — go or no-go calls, maintenance choices, training paths — get made based on advice from anonymous forum posts, unverified social media accounts, and outdated resources.
PlanesChat was built to fix that. By tying every account to an FAA Airman Certificate, we create a community where experience and credentials are transparent. When a CFI with 4,000 hours and a CFII rating tells you to reconsider that IFR approach, you can verify their credentials and weigh their advice accordingly.
We combine verified community with the tools pilots actually need preflight — live weather, NOTAMs, radar, and direct access to aviation professionals — in a single platform that works as a PWA on any device.
Every PlanesChat member is verified against the FAA Airman Inquiry — the official registry maintained by the Federal Aviation Administration. Verification is matched by first name, last name, and certificate type.
Verification confirms that a member holds an active FAA airman certificate. It does not constitute an endorsement of individual pilots by the FAA or PlanesChat.
Member enters their legal name and certificate type during registration
PlanesChat queries the FAA Airman Registry and matches the record
Verified badge is applied to profile; certificate status is rechecked periodically
PlanesChat uses only authoritative, government-maintained data sources for all aviation information. We do not resell or reprocess third-party commercial weather data.

PlanesChat started as an internal tool after its founders grew tired of unverified advice dominating aviation social media. The FAA verification idea came from a simple question: why can't we prove who we say we are?
Beta launched to a closed cohort of GA pilots from the AOPA community. First 1,000 members verified within 6 weeks. Real-time weather and NOTAM tools added based on early feedback.
The Hangar launched as a dedicated professional directory for CFIs, A&Ps, DPEs, and AMEs. First marketplace for verified aviation professionals in GA.
PlanesChat is in active beta with ongoing development. PWA installable on all devices. Push notifications via FCM. Full professional booking via The Hangar.
PlanesChat does not replace authoritative aviation resources — we link to them. For regulatory information, always refer to official FAA and AOPA sources.
